Missing Children’s Day poster contest open to fifth-graders

The Indiana State Police and the U.S. Department of Justice have partnered to promote the National Missing Children’s Day Poster Contest. President Ronald Reagan proclaimed May 25 as National Missing Children’s Day in 1983.

The day is meant to encourage parents, guardians and caregivers to make child safety a priority and serve as a reminder to continue efforts to reunite missing children with their families.

Students who submit posters must be in the fifth grade. There is no limit on the number of posters a school can submit, but only one poster per student is allowed. Posters must be submitted with a completed application, which may be found online at ojjdp.ojp.gov/events/missing-childrens-day/about-poster-contest.

Artwork should center around the theme “Bringing Our Missing Children Home” and the phrase must appear somewhere on the poster. The poster must measure 8½-by-14 inches.

The winner will receive an award certificate from the U.S. Department of Justice and their poster will go to the national judging competition. The winner, their parents and teacher, and the state manager will be invited to Washington, D.C. to participate in the National Missing Children’s Day ceremony.

The deadline for submissions to be received by Sgt. Seth Tumey is Feb. 7, 2023.

Submissions must be sent to: Indiana State Police Museum, Attn: Sergeant Seth Tumey, 8660 E. 21st St., Indianapolis, IN 46219.
