Louis Carl “Gutsy” Gearries Jr.

Louis Carl “Gutsy” Gearries Jr., 79, of Commiskey, passed away at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at his residence.

Born May 10, 1943, in North Vernon, he was the son of the late Louis Gearries Sr. and Mary Hazel (Biehle) Gearries. He married Wilma Willhite on May 29. 1966, in North Vernon; she survives.

Gutsy was a machine operator for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus before he retired. He had previously worked for ITT Ford in North Vernon. Gutsy was a member of Commiskey First Church of God and enjoyed going to Burger King for breakfast with friends, farming, attending auctions and yard sales, and spending time with family.

Surviving with his wife of 56 years, Wilma, are his daughters, Sherry (Kevin) Little and Cindy (Gene Brown) Gearries, both of North Vernon and Linda (Daren) Eddy of Marshfield, Missouri; sisters, Mary Lou (Marvin) Baldwin of Columbus, Martha Eden of Anderson, Starlene (Dan) Ross and Julie Gearries, both of North Vernon, and Donna (Joe) Lunsford of Texas; grandchildren, Kindall (Tyler) Browning-Rickle, Jordan (Emma) Browning of North Vernon, Will (Crystal) Barrett of Commiskey, Justin Eddy and Janelle Eddy, both of Marshfield, Missouri, Kristen Little of Portland, Oregon, Whitney Little and Matt Little, both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and great-grandchildren, Briley Browning, Scout Barrett, Clementine Little-Walls.

He was preceded in death by his parents, twin baby brothers, sister, Ruth Skelton, and father and mother-in-law, Charles and Ellen Willhite.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 5, 2022, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Matt Sullivan officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

Memorials may be made in honor of Gutsy through the funeral home to the Commiskey 1st Church of God Recreational Building Fund or donors’ choice of organization.
