Columbus North High School’s Student Assembly is conducting its annual can drive.

The drive ends on Dec. 19, said assembly member and senior Adler Larson. It began in early November, with students leaving blue door hangers at local houses. The door hangers are printed with information about the drive and pick-up times.

Students are still collecting cans from these residences and will continue to do so until late December, said student assembly member Isabelle Larken. Larken is the senior co-chair of this year’s can drive, which will serve as her senior project.

Donors can also bring both food and monetary donations to the front office at Columbus North, or contact Larson at [email protected] to arrange pickup. Checks should be made out to Columbus North High School.

Larson added that despite its name, the drive is not limited to just canned donations. Other nonperishable items are also accepted. Monetary donations will go to purchase more food items, and the student assembly also buys Kroger gift cards for drive recipients.

Planning for the 2022 can drive began shortly after last year’s winter break, with students brainstorming ideas and improvements.

“I love the project,” said Larken, who was the junior co-chair for the 2021 drive. “I loved what it does for the community, and I loved how involved it gets the whole school. So I knew I wanted it to be my senior project.”
