Two Columbus Youth Hockey teams came away with tournament championships last weekend in the Great Lakes Winter Classic in Holland, Michigan.

The 12U B team fell to Chicago Stallions 3-1, beat Northwest Chargers 3-2 and lost to Compuware 10-0 before beating Northwest Chargers 2-1 in the semifinals. In the championship game, they were tied with 2-2 after regulation and sudden death overtime before winning in a shootout. Henry Jamerson netted three goals and one assist; Clare Neff scored three goals; Nolan Sparkman had two goals and one assist and Hallie Mudd, Luke Getchell and Graham Barnes all added one assist. Knox Coen was in net.

The 10U squad beat Rolling Meadows Renegades 7-1, Livonia Knights 5-0 and Rochester Vipers 13-0 before edging Rolling Meadows Renegates 4-3 in the title game.

Four other Flames teams competed in the Great Lakes Winter Classic.

Bantam A beat Belle Tire 5-2 and Ann Harbor Wolverines 3-0, tied Midland North Stars 0-0 and beat Troy Bruins 5-0 before falling to Midland North Stars 3-0 in the championship. Will Jamerson netted seven goals and two assists, Sawyer Patterson recorded two goals and one assist, Ayden Richardson scored two goals, Simon Barnes had one goal and four assists, Eduardo Aranda scored one goal, Tyler Teague notched three assists, River Degner had two assists and Ashton Nguyen and Uriah Oliphant each added one assist. Lane Barringer was in net.

Bantam B fell to Kensington Valley Warriors 4-2 and Meramec Sharks 7-0 and beat Troy Bruins 5-0 and 6-1. Ryan McGhehey scored nine goals; Carter Kareus added two goals; Zane Lynch and Preston Bell each had one goal and one assist; Bryson Moore and Jack Treesh each had 2 assists and Lilly Donica, Quincy Grider and Linda Wang all added one assist. Gabe Marsh and Keegan Bishop each were in net two games.

The 12U AA team lost to Columbus (Ohio) Capitals 3-2 and Kitchener Jr. 9-1, tied Nashville Warriors 4-4 and fell to Nashville Warriors 5-3. Brooks Larsh netted five goals and three assists; Carter Davis recorded two goals and two assists; Rowan Correll scored two goals; Maddox Coy notched one goal and two assists; Ethan Neumann had two assists and Thomas King, Garrett Uy and Kai Bergman all added one assist. Canyon Long was in net and saved 75 of 96 shots for a 78.1 save percentage.

The 10U AA squad fell to Grand Rapids 2-1 and Lakeland Hawks 3-2 and won 5-2 and tied 4-4 against Kensington Valley Raiders. Carson Sims and Dalton Larsh each netted four goals and two assists, Thomas Degner tallied one goal and two assists, Daniel Wallace and Nolan Bush each recorded one goal and one assist, Chance Mathis scored one goal, Avery Orgass had two assists and Ollie Jamerson and Lucas Oswald each added one assist. Cayden Long was in net, saving 109 of 120 shots for a 90.8 save percentage.

Also last weekend, the Columbus Icemen fell to the Cincinnati Swords 6-0. The Icemen Prep lost to Evansville 12-3. Kaitlyn Netser and Blake Avery each netted one goal and one assist, Jayden Pagan scored one goal and Dana Thomas added one assist. Sydney Morrow was in net.

SWIMMING

Club Olympia takes fourth

Club Olympia finished fourth out of 15 teams from Michigan, Ohio and Indiana at last weekend’s FAST Santa Claus Classic hosted by the Fishers Area Swim Team.

Joshua Pendleton won the boys 11-12 high point award and ran the table, winning all eight of his events, including the 100-yard freestyle, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 1,650 (mile) freestyle, 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley.

Shreyan Kulkarni won the boys 9-10 high point award finishing in the top five in all his individual events including the 1,650 (mile) freestyle, where he competed in the open division and was the only 10 year old competitor. Kulkarni won the 50 backstroke and finished second in the 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle and 200 IM; third in the 50 butterfly and 100 breaststroke; fourth in the 50 breaststroke and fifth in the 50 freestyle.

Vivan Shah placed second in high points among the 8U boys by winning the 50 backstroke and placing second in the 25 freestyle, 25 breaststroke, 25 backstroke, 50 freestyle, 50 breaststroke, 50 butterfly and 100 IM and third in the 100 IM.

Camila Mejia Murguia finished fourth in High Points in the girls 9-10 division, despite not swimming in two events the first evening. She placed second in the 50 butterfly and 100 butterfly, third in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, fourth in the 50 backstroke and fifth in the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke.

Sarthak Deshmuk took third in the 25 backstroke, fourth in the 50 backstroke, 50 butterfly and 100 IM, and fifth in the 50 breaststroke with three other top-10 finishes. Myra Jaryal placed second in the 50 breaststroke, third in the 25 breaststroke, fourth in the 100 IM, with four additional top 10s. Rebeca Mejia Murguia finished fourth in the 50 butterfly and 100 breaststroke and fifth in the 50 breaststroke and 100 freestyle, with four other top 10s.

Misha Machavariani, competing in the boys open division, placed fourth in the 200 butterfly and fifth in the 1,650 (mile) freestyle, with four other top 10s. Lily Pendleton in the 9-10 girls division, took fourth in the 200 IM and fifth in the 100 butterfly, with three additional top 10s. Connelly Furnish, competing in the 13-14 girls division, claimed fifth in the 1,650 (mile) freestyle, with four other top 10s.

Chad Pendleton finished second in the 8U 100 freestyle, with an additional top 10. Arjun Agarkar had two top 10s in the 10U boys division. Aahan Gupta and Neeti Gujarathi both claimed top-10 finishes in individual events.

Club Olympia relay teams claimed eight top-five finishes. In the boys Open 200 Medley Relay, Judah Nickoll, Machavariani, Todd Hundley and Cavan Stilson placed sixth; while the team of Nickoll, Machavariani, Stilson and Ethan Hall finished fifth in the 200 freestyle relay.

Zoie Chandelkar, Sanaa Kulkarni, Nandini Kondhare and Connelly Furnish finished eighth in the 13-14 200 medley relay. Camila and Rebeca Mejia Murguia, along with Lily Pendleton and Kay Payne took third in the girls 9-10 200 medley relay; while Cali Gray and Myra Jaryal teamed with the Mejia Murguia sisters for fifth in the 200 freestyle relay.

Shreyan Kulkarni, Adir Joshi, Aahan Gupta and Arjun Agarkar placed fourth in the 10U boys 200 medley relay. Kulkarni, Joshi, Gupta and Turner Mellencamp were third in the 200 freestyle relay.

The Club Olympia 8U girls relay teams finished fifth in the 100 medley relay and third in the 100 freestyle relay and included Bella Zhang, Neeti Gujarathi, Myra Jaryal and Aahana Ingole. The 8U boys were fourth in both the 100 medley and 100 freestyle relays and included Chad Pendleton, Vivan Shah, Sarthak Deshmukh, Max Tempest and Arash Thokade.

For the weekend overall, Club Olympia swimmers added nine new Divisional Cuts, one new Age Group State Cut and a Senior State Cut by Josh Pendleton. Pendleton’s 1650 (mile) freestyle time was second-fastest in the nation so far this season by an 11-12 year old boy.

Donner swims at Seymour

Donner Swim Club participated last weekend in a meet hosted by Seymour Swim Club. Several Donner swimmers obtained Divisional standards and top-five finishes in various events.

Ella Bringman finished second place in the 100 freestyle in 1 minute, 25.42 seconds, a divisional standard. Bringman also earned divisional standards in 200 freestyle (3:14.49), 50 backstroke (46.43), 100 butterfly (1:50.22) and by winning the 200IM (3:32.04) divisional timing.

Caroline Crawford earned divisional timings in the 50 freestyle (32.34), 100 freestyle (1:12.7), 100 backstroke (1:20.24), 50 breaststroke (41.87), 100 breaststroke (1:31.37) and placed fourth in the 50 butterfly and 100 butterfly. Elle Fitzsimmons earned divisional standards in the 50 freestyle (38.70), 200 freestyle (3:18.67) and 100 Backstroke (1:41.65).

Mridula Muthukumaran earned divisional standards in the 50 freestyle (28.32), 200 freestyle (2:16.00), 100 backstroke (1:05.50), 200 backstroke (2:21.07), 100 breaststroke (1:24.08) and 200 breaststroke (2:59.50). Abby Proffitt (14) had divisional timings in the 100 freestyle (1:03.73), 200 freestyle (2:21.25), 200 backstroke (2:38.36), 100 breaststroke (1:24.70) and 200 IM (2:42.84). Courtland Reed earned a divisional standard in the 200 freestyle (3:16.60).

Harlow Hayden won the 25 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke and 25 breaststroke. Natalie Parsons came first in the 100 freestyle and second in the 25 freestyle, 50 backstroke and 25 breaststroke. Lela Smith placed fifth in the 25 backstroke. Babb Linley won the 25 backstroke and 25 Butterfly and placed second in the 50 freestyle and third in 25 freestyle and 50 backstroke.

For the Donner boys, Cooper Bringman finished fourth in the 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke and earned a divisional time standard in the 50 freestyle (36.34). Lincoln Crawford earned his divisional standard in the 50 backstroke (44.80) and placed fifth in the 100 backstroke.

Babb Bryant placed in the top five in two of his events, and Hudson Clock finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke. Conrad Eddy won the 25 freestyle and 50 backstroke. Calvin Findley placed third in the 25 freestyle and 100 freestyle and fourth in the 50 backstroke and 25 breaststroke. Samuel Foiles won the 25 backstroke, and Charlie Getz was second in the 50 Breaststroke.

Anand Neela finished fifth in the 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 50 Breaststroke. Garrett Perfetto (12) placed third in the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 50 butterfly. Ritivik Prithiviraj took fifth in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle and third in 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, 100 butterfly and 200 IM.

Charlie Reed won the 50 freestyle and 25 breaststroke and finished second in the 25 backstroke and 50 backstroke and fourth in the 25 freestyle. Bryce Seger placed third in the 50 freestyle and second in the 25 backstroke.

Donner also hosted Olympic gold medalist Cody Miller on Nov. 20th for a clinic for the young swimmers. Many Donner and Seymour swimmers participated in the clinic.

SPEED SKATING

Full Throttle skates in Ohio

The Full Throttle Speed Skating team competed in the Ohio Invitational meet last weekend in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, against teams from the midwest and mid-Atlantic, including Ohio, Virginia, the DC metro area, Pennsylvania and New York.

Each skater had a semifinal and final for a total of six races. Final standing by age group and gender was determined from total points earned from each race.

Gabe Marimoto Taqueushi advanced to the B final at 255m, C final at 340m, and B final for 425m for his age group. He finished the day in second place overall for his age group and gender.

Vivaan Gupta advanced to the B final at 255m, 340m and 425m for his age group. He finished the day at fourth place overall for his age group and gender.

Luis Marimoto Taqueushi advanced to the C final at 255m and 340m and A final at 425m for his age group. He finished the day at third place overall for his age group and gender.

Full Throttle Speed Skating Team practices at the Hamilton Center Ice Arena, and is coached by Taylor and Mikey Burdekin of Columbus.

BROOMBALL

Monsters remain unbeaten

Monsters of Rock ran its record to 5-0 in the Columbus Broomball League with a 7-0 win against Jennings County BC (0-5). Tyler Rash scored three goals, and Ben Eckhart, Rob Jones, Zach Henderson and Katelyn Perera all added one goal.

Our Name Is Earl (4-1) beat Toyota Tsunamis 4-1 behind two goals from Darren Eckerly and one each from Ellie Lutz and Myers. Clayton McNealy scored for Tsunamis (1-4).

Hansons defeated CCA 7-1. Max Warr, Matt Psota and Rahul Bhardwaj all scored two gaols, and Ryan Jepson added one for Hansons (3-2). Todd Houghin had the goal for CCA (2-3).

BASKETBALL

Panther girls go 2-1

The Jennings County eighth-grade girls went 2-1 in the St. John’s Sauers Tournament last weekend.

The Panthers beat Seymour 31-13, led by Anniston Kent with 14 points and Etta Young with nine. Kent scored 19, and Young added 11 in a 45-42 win against Lutheran Central. Jennings fell to Central 46-23, with Young leading the Panthers with 12 points.
