Love Chapel and the Salvation Army food banks are benefitting from some much needed food drives happening in the community during the holiday season as the charities seek more donations to meet increasing need.

This week, volunteers with the Bartholomew County Democratic Women’s Club dropped off a donation of 240 pounds of nonperishables to Love Chapel’s food pantry.

Meanwhile, the second annual Christmas Food Drive for Columbus is wrapping up today.

Columbus business leaders and longtime friends Jody Johnson, owner and operator of Johnson’s NextLevel Services, and Dominic Glover of Glover DeWeese Law, along with Columbus branches of First Financial Bank, are collecting donations of nonperishable food and cash donations for Love Chapel’s food pantry.

Today, food donations or monetary donations will be collected from noon to 4 p.m. at the First Financial branch at 2737 Central Ave., including donations of turkeys and hams for Love Chapel’s food pantry.

Johnson said after last year’s inaugural drive raised more than 1,000 pounds of food and more than $1,000 in donations, “Dominic and I decided we wanted to make this an annual event.”

Donations also may be made directly to the food banks:
