Icemen notch pair of hockey victories

The Hauser seventh-grade girls basketball team beat Perry Meridian and Edinburgh to win the Bracket Challenge in the MYT Fall League last weekend. The Columbus Icemen Varsity picked up a pair of wins last weekend, beating Munster 3-2 and Brebeuf 6-1.

Will Kushner, John Ferguson and Eduardo Aranda all scored two goals for the Icemen. Alex Clark and Drew Weed each netted one goal and two assists; John Merritt had 1 assist; Dane Weinzapfel scored one goal; River Degner had three assists and Tristan Tyner, Nate Balasia, Caden Graham, Carter Greene and Caleb McGhehey all added one assist. Jake McMullen and Ben Blanz each were in net one game.

The Icemen Prep fell to Angola 9-1. Bryce McDonald scored the goal off an assist from Noah Dornfield. Sydney Morrow was in net.

Flames 14U A beat Miami 8-0 and 6-0. Tyler Teague netted four goals and one assist, Will Jamerson recorded three goals and two assists, Ayden Richardson scored three goals, Sawyer Patterson had two goals and one assist, Ashton Nguyen notched one goal and five assists, Tyson Tyner tallied one goal and one assist and Simon Barnes added two assists. Lane Barringer and Gabe Marsh each were in net one game.

Flames 14U B beat Dayton 4-1 and 3-0. Griffen Mudd, Carter Kareus and Kaitlyn Netser all scored two goals; Bryson Moore netted one goal; John Tuttle had three assists; and Preston Bell, Jack Treesh and Cooper Ross all added one assist. Gabe Marsh and Keegan Bishop each were in net one game.

Flames 12U B lost 4-2 and tied 2-2 against Bloomington and lost 5-3 and tied 2-2 against Cincy Swords. Nolan Sparkman netted two goals and two assists; Clare Neff recorded two goals and one assist; Hudson Maynard and Henry Jamerson each scored two goals; Luis Taqueushi tallied one goal; Graham Barnes had three assists and Jonah Broderick , Luke Getchell and Colby Payne all added one assist. Knox Coen was in net.

SWIMMING

Donner swims at Ohio River Challenge

Donner Swim Club competed at the 2022 Ohio River Challenge in Louisville last weekend against clubs from Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. Donner swimmers achieved numerous personal best times and scored 232 points.

In timed finals for 10-and-under swimmers, Luiza Salomao placed eighth in 200 freestyle and 16th in 200IM, Ritivik Prithiviraj finished 12th in 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke, Cade Paulsen took 13th in the 50 breaststroke and Courtland Reed was 13th in the 200 freestyle.

The 11-12 year old and 13-and-over age swimmers competed in a championship, prelims–finals format. Deetya Chintam and Bryn Emmitt qualified for the consolation heat of finals in 100 breaststroke. Caroline Crawford led all Donner swimmers with 25 points, reaching the finals in all of her events. Crawford placed 11th in the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly, 12th in 50 backstroke, 13th in the 50 butterfly, 15th in the 50 breaststroke and 200 IM and 17th in the 100 freestyle.

In the 13-and-over girls division, Mridula Muthukumaran led Donner with 22 points, qualifying for the finals in the 200 IM (ninth), 100 backstroke (11th), 200 backstroke (14th), 50 freestyle (16th ), 200 freestyle (16th) and 100 freestyle (17th). Georgia Abdallah placed 19th in the 200IM finals and 21st in the 200 breaststroke. Abby Proffitt qualified for the finals in the 200 IM and 200 breaststroke finishing 16th and 17th, respectively.

For the 13-and-over boys, Isaac Proffitt led Donner with 25 points. Proffitt qualified for the finals and placed 11th in the 200 backstroke and 50 freestyle, 12th in the 100 backstroke, 14th in the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly and 15th in the 100 breaststroke. Brock Smith advanced to the finals and finished seventh in 200 butterfly and 13th in the 100 breaststroke. Smith also qualified for the finals in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM. Aarush Mahato qualified for the finals and took 12th in the 200 IM, 13th in the 100 butterfly, 17th in the 200 freestyle and 19th in the 100 breaststroke and 50 freestyle.

Club Olympia swims in Holiday Season Slam

Last weekend, 23, mostly select Age Group swimmers traveled to Franklin to compete in the Holiday Season Slam Meet against seven club teams representing Madison, Evansville, Franklin and Carmel among others from Central Indiana. The intent was to provide select Club Olympia athletes who have been focusing on stroke and distance development the opportunity to demonstrate their improvement with personal records and to achieve additional Divisional and State Qualifying cut times for the Short Course Season-ending championships in March.

In total, Club Olympia Swimmers achieved 71 PRs, as well 14 new Divisional Cuts and one new Age Group State Championship qualifying time. And while team competition and points were not the focus, the small group of swimmers claimed fourth place overall.

In the 8-and-under division, Club Olympia’s four swimmers claimed 13 PRs and added four Divisional cuts from the 10U time standards. Chad Pendleton PR’d in the 100-yard breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley, where he achieved Divisional cuts in each. Vivan Shah swam to two PRs in the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly where he added another Divisional cut to his season total. Arash Thokade had three PRs, and Sarthak Deshmukh added five personal best-times.

For the 9-10 year old division, 10 athletes combined for PRs in 35 events, led by Rebecca Mejia Murguia who claimed 8 PRs, while her sister Camila improved her time in three events. Lily Pendleton PR’d in two events while claiming her first Age Group State Divisional Cut in the 50 butterfly. Aahan Gupta PR’d in six events, with a Divisional cut in the 50 breaststroke. Shourya Malviya had eight PRs with a Divisional cut in the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle. Vibrashri Nagiligari improved times in four of six events. Adir Joshi swam to four PRs, while Emily Meek and Chris Suo combined for three PRs.

In the 11-12 division, Daxton Wolf PR’d in seven of eight events and added five Divisional cuts to his total, including the 50 breaststroke, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 200 IM. Xavier Zhang had PRs in four events, Jonathon Dettmer in two events, Ritsuki Singh in all three events and Aubrey Hernandez in one event. Graesyn Steinkoenig PR’d in three events, with her first 11-12 Divisional cut in the 50 freestyle.

Senior Swimmers Joshua Pendleton and Luke Miller also competed in select events on a shortened weekend schedule, combining for three personal-best times. The top five point scoring swimmers for Club Olympia on the weekend were Rebeca and Camila Mejia Murguia, Vivan Shah, Shourya Malviya and Lily Pendleton.

BROOMBALL

MOR posts shutout, remains unbeaten

Monsters of Rock ran its record to 6-0 in the Columbus Broomball League with a 7-0 win against Toyota Tsunamis (1-5). Kyle Roshak netted three goals, while Zach Henderson scored two and Ben Eckhart and Tyler Rash each added one.

Hansons beat Our Name Is Earl 9-1. Max Warr and Eric Spilling each scored three goals for Hansons (4-2), while Matt Psota had two and Ryan Jepson added one. Darren Eckerly notched the goal for Earl (4-2).

CCA topped Jennings County BC 4-1. Todd Houchin and Scott Herron each netted two gaols for CCA (3-3). Kyle Hunterman scored for Jennings (0-6).

BASKETBALL

Panther varsity teams victorious

The Jennings County eighth-grade girls varsity beat Madison 42-4. Aylan Belding scored 19 points, and Etta Young aded nine.

The Panther eighth-grade girls JV fell to Southwestern 31-19 and Immanuel Lutheran 26-16. Paige Hack scored six points against Southwestern, and Rylee McCammon had eight against Immanuel.

The Jennings seventh-grade girls varsity beat Northside 40-25 and Madison 45-18. Aniston Kent scored 17 points, while Karmindy Lowman added nine and Kydia Martin eight aginst Northside. Kent had 16, and Mookky Ratcliff added 11 against Madison.

The Panther seventh-grade girls JV fell to Southwestern 24-18 and Immanuel Lutheran 39-12. Lowman scored eight points against Southwestern, and Myah Owens had four against Immanuel.

The Jennings seventh-grade boys White team beat Immanuel Lutheran 52-13. Nate Dixon led the Panthers (5-2) with 28 points, and Cash Summers added 15.

The Third-Grade Hauser Dream travel team went 9-4 and finished runner-up in the MYT Gold Bracket last weekend.
