With arctic temperatures expected to accompany an approaching winter storm in the coming days, the Brighter Days emergency shelter, 421 S. Mapleton St., has extended hours and will be open all day on Sunday, Christmas Day.

Normal hours for Brighter Days are 6 p.m. to 8 a.m., but hours have been adjusted for the coming days as follows:

Friday, Dec. 23:  Shelter adding one hour in morning, open until 9 a.m.

Saturday, Dec. 24: Shelter adding two hours in morning, open till 10 a.m.

Sunday, Dec. 25: Shelter staying open all day long.

Monday, Dec. 26: Shelter adding one hour in morning, open till 9 a.m.

Also, city parks have adjusted hours in anticipation of the storm. The Donner Center will be closed Friday-Monday, but facilities will be open as follows:

Friday: Hamilton Center, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The Commons, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Foundation for Youth, 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Nexus Park, 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Saturday: The Commons, 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Nexus Park, 6 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Sunday: All facilities closed.

Monday: Hamilton Center, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The Commons, 7 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (playground 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.)

Nexus Park, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
