NORTH VERNON
Mary Frances Long, 92. Of North Vernon, passed away at 12:40 a.m. on Friday, December 23, 2022, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon.
Born March 14, 1930, in Greenwood, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Elsie (Hester) Stinson. She married Ralph W. “Santa Claus” Long Sr. on July 10, 1953, in Vernon; he preceded her in death on November 7, 2001.
Mary attended Scipio and North Vernon Schools and was a housewife and homemaker. She enjoyed playing handheld games, going to Belterra Casino and watching the Cincinnati Reds Baseball, Indiana University Sports, especially basketball.
Survivors include her sons, Gary (Carol) Stinson, and Steve (Cindy) Long, both of North Vernon, David (Sherry Richart) Long of Seymour and Ralph (Leah) Long Jr. of Monon; her daughter, Sheila (Dan) Adams of North Vernon; grandchildren, Cheryl (Brett) Swearingen of Greenwood, Stacey (Bob) Lane of Lovett, Andy Sinkes and Rana (Isiah Wilds) Cole, both of North Vernon, Lindsay Gasperino of Lenexa, Kansas, Jennifer (Brian) Owens of Southport, Christopher (Heather) Long of Madison, Jerrod (Heather) Long and Jordan (Tori) Long, both of Lafayette; several great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and grandchildren, Gary Michael Stinson, Nikki Long and Derrick Long.
A funeral service for Mary will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at the Dove-Sharp &Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Kendall Wildey officiating. The Visitation for family and friends will be held 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
Memorials for Mary may be made through the funeral home to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
