Services and studies

Asbury United Methodist Church — Asbury offers a traditional service at 8:45 a.m. and a contemporary service at 11 a.m. Nursery is available for both services. J.A.M. (children’s church) is offered only at the 11 a.m. service. Sunday school classes meet at 10 a.m. Asbury offers a variety of classes and group studies at various times during the week. The services for Jan. 1 will be at 8:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. There will be no live-steam available for this Sunday.

Every Thursday when school is in full-day session, a $4 taco/chicken lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with Pit Stop (Taco Church) Lunch.

Columbus Baptist Church — The church offers worship services on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. A teen service is offered at 6:30 p.m. Sunday school for all ages meets at 9:30 a.m.

Wednesday Bible study, Kids Club and teens meet at 6:30 p.m. There are various small group events weekly.

Community Church of Columbus — Community Church of Columbus meets for Sunday service at 9 and 10:30 a.m. The second service is livestreamed and available on the Community Church’s Columbus Indiana Facebook page and Community Church of Columbus YouTube channel.

East Columbus Christian Church — East Columbus Christian Church is open for in-person worship on Sunday mornings with a blended worship service at 10 a.m. The church also has online worship available through Facebook and YouTube.

Sunday morning Bible study is at 9 a.m. Youth meet at the church from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and children’s ministry meets through Zoom on Wednesdays at 5 p.m.

East Columbus United Methodist Church — Pastor Jongmin Lee will bring the message at the 9 a.m. Sunday worship service. The morning blended worship service includes praise music and traditional hymns. Children receive a special message during children’s moment and are dismissed for children’s church during the service. Sunday school is held immediately after the morning service, and classes are available for all ages and Bible interests. Holy Communion is served on the first Sunday of each month.

A free hot meal will be served Jan. 8 and the second Sunday of each month at 5 p.m. in the Youth Center Building. All are welcome to come.

Fairlawn Presbyterian Church — The church has in-person and Zoom services at 9:30 a.m. To join on Zoom, email the church office at [email protected] to request a Zoom link.

Fellowship and coffee hour is every Wednesday at 7 p.m. Contact the church for the Zoom link.

Women’s Bible study is the third Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m.

January Love Chapel donations will be canned fruit.

Faith Lutheran Church — Worship each Sunday begins at 9 a.m. in-person and livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page. Most Sundays, Sunday school and an adult Bible study are offered from 10:15 to 11 a.m. Wednesday evening worship (masks optional) is offered at 6:30 p.m. each week. The congregation also livestreams a daily devotion and prayer Monday through Thursday at 7 a.m. on the Facebook page.

Preschool classes continue and the congregation offers an afterschool program each school day from 3 to 5:30 p.m. with busing from Southside Elementary.

First Christian Church — The church is offering services in person and online at 9 and 10:30 a.m. FCC Kids is at 10:30 a.m. and FCC Teens is at 9 a.m.

First Lutheran Church — The church offers in-person worship on Sunday mornings at 8:45 a.m. for the classic service and 11:15 a.m. for the casual service. Livestreaming of both services can be accessed on the church’s YouTube page.

First Presbyterian Church — Happy New Year! Jan. 1 communion worship will focus on Philippians 2:9-13 and Luke 2:15-21, with a sermon by the Rev. Cal Brand titled “Every Knee? Every Tongue?” The church will have a 9:30 a.m. worship in person in the sanctuary (you may wear a mask) or on Facebook, Zoom or YouTube. People in the community in need of a meal are invited to hot meals offered Fridays at 5 p.m. (Please enter through the glass doors on Franklin Street.) The church is LGBTQ-friendly, open and affirming to all.

First United Methodist Church — On Sunday, Jan. 1, at 10 a.m., the Rev. Howard Boles will deliver the message, “From Generation to Generation: A New Beginning.” The scripture will be Ecclesiastes 3:1-13 and Revelation 21:1-6a.

The church encourages those attending in person to arrive 10 minutes before the service. Hand sanitizer will be available at the entrances to the sanctuary. Masks are optional. Childcare will be available from 9:45 a.m. until the end of the 10 a.m. service.

For those unable to attend the in-person service or not yet comfortable meeting in person, service livestreams will be available on the church Facebook page and the church YouTube channel (FUMC Columbus). Videos will be available on the church website for later viewing as well.

Flintwood Wesleyan Church — Sunday morning worship begins at 9 a.m. with the amplify (contemporary) service. Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. with classes for all age groups. The well (traditional) service begins at 11 a.m. Both worship services are led by Pastor Wesley Jones. The church’s Sunday amplify services are livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube.

Wednesday activities begin with a meal served at 5:30 p.m. in the friendship center. The iKids program begins at 6:15 p.m. and youth meet downstairs in the sanctuary at 6:30 p.m. Prayer team meets in the prayer room downstairs in the main building at 6:15 p.m., and adult Bible study meets at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. Scouts meet Thursdays at 7 p.m.

Garden City Christian Church — Sunday school classes are available for infants through adults at 9 a.m. Join the church for a 10 a.m. Sunday morning worship service lead by Pastor Brian Gilroy.

The church’s Alzheimer’s and dementia support group for caregivers meets on the first Tuesday of each month from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Wednesday evening youth group, led by interim youth minister Ryan Croft, runs from 6 to 8 p.m. for grades 6-12. Trail Life Troop IN-0110 meets twice monthly on Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m.

Memorial Baptist Church — The church is offering in-person and online worship services at 9:30 a.m. Sunday school is offered online at 10:45 a.m. Online services are via Facebook and YouTube.

Mount Pleasant Christian Union Church — The church invites the community to visit the little 150-year-old country church for a 10:30 a.m. Sunday service. The church preaches out of the King James Bible and sings out of hymn books. The church’s doors are open for visitors for this new year as the church family looks to grow.

Newbern United Methodist Church — The church is practicing strict COVID-19 preventative measures. Masks are required. All activities are postponed until further notice except for Sunday service at 10:30 a.m. and online Bible study each Wednesday at 7 p.m. via Zoom.

Old Union United Church of Christ — Pastor Al White, the church’s transitional pastor, is leading worship and sharing messages that encourage firm foundations of faith in Jesus. Simple church — simply Jesus.

The church has added a time for discipleship growth at 9 a.m. on Sunday mornings. There’s always a coffee and donut time downstairs before the morning worship time at 10 a.m.

Petersville United Methodist Church — On the Sunday after Christmas, Jan. 1, 2003, the Petersville United Methodist Church will hear Pastor Rebecca Milne’s sermon, “Sacred Doing.” Scriptures will come from Isaiah 63:7-9 and Matthew 2:13-23, and the message will encourage individuals to dedicate themselves in the New Year to sacred acts of justice and mercy, bringing grace to a hurting world, and reflecting the sacred in all that is done.

Teresa Covert will give the children’s message. Kathy Bush will serve as worship and song leader, Chris Kimerling will be at the organ and Connie Nolting will be the pianist.

A time of fellowship and refreshment will follow the service.

Sandy Hook United Methodist Church —Sandy Hook United Methodist church will gather for one combined service at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 1. Pastor Paul Dazet will present “Get Up and Go #morelife” as he wraps up the Advent sermon series, “Angels Among Us.”

Sunday School will not be offered. Nursery is available for those 3 years old or younger during the service.

St. Paul Episcopal Church — On Jan. 1, the Sunday Worship service at 10:15 a.m. will celebrate the arrival of the Rev. Aelred Bernard Dean as the church’s new Priest in Charge. Dean will preach and meet the congregation at coffee hour after the service.

On Jan. 8, the presider at the 10:15 a.m. worship service will be Diocesan Bishop Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows, who will preach and meet and greet the congregation after the service at coffee hour.

St. Paul Lutheran Church — New Year’s Eve Communion service will be held at 6:30 p.m. tonight with Pastor Jeff Patterson delivering the message, “Numbering Our Days” based on Psalm 90:1-12 (Spanish Communion service at 4:30 p.m.). Sunday will kick off the St. Paul 175th Anniversary celebration with congregational son Pastor Marcus Manley delivering the message at the 10 a.m. New Year’s Day service. An ethnic pitch-in meal will follow in the fellowship room to include a euchre tournament and games. The St. Paul History and Memories book will be available for a suggested $10 donation.

There will be no fellowship hour, education hour or Spanish service on New Year’s Day.

Radio worship service every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. on WYGS 91.1 FM and The Lutheran Hour every Sunday at 7 p.m. on WYGS 91.1 FM.

The Wednesday morning Bible class will resume on Jan. 4 studying the Gospel of John with the evening class resuming Jan. 11 studying Old Testament feasts and festivals. All are welcome.
