Intoxicated motorist stopped for driving 109 mph with child in vehicle

SEYMOUR — A trooper from the Indiana State Police Versailles Post stopped a vehicle for traveling 109 mph Wednesday morning on Interstate 65 in northern Jackson County.

The driver, Anthony Andrew Reed, 36, of Huntsville, Alabama, was arrested after the investigation determined he was intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of three times the legal limit while having a young child in the car, according to a news release from Sgt. Stephen Wheeles.

The investigation by Trooper Korry Clark began at approximately 10 a.m. when he stopped a 2020 Toyota passenger car being driven north on the interstate near the Jackson County line with Bartholomew County for traveling well over the posted 70 mph speed limit.

During the course of the stop, Clark observed Reed showed signs of intoxication, said Wheeles, who is the public information officer for the Versailles Post.

Reed was transported to the Seymour Police Department, where he submitted to a breath test for intoxication. The test determined he had a BAC of 0.24%.

He was transported to the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown, where he was remanded to the custody of the jail staff on preliminary charges of operating while intoxicated with a prior conviction within five years, operating while intoxicated with a child under the age of 18 and operating with a BAC of 0.15% or greater.

More charges are possible, Wheeles said.

An adult female passenger and the child were released from the scene.
