Bucceto’s will leave The Commons

A Columbus location of a Bloomington pizza chain is expected to close later this year.

Bucceto’s Smiling Teeth Pizza and Pasta has given the Columbus Redevelopment Commission notice that it does not intend to renew its lease at The Commons, said Redevelopment Director Heather Pope.

“They were required to give us six months’ notice, of which they did,” she told the commission on Monday. “And Paul (Heilbrunn), the owner of Bucceto’s, has had some health issues and just can’t keep this branch up along with his two branches in Bloomington. And so I’ve been talking to multiple potential tenants. In fact, we had an interview with one today. … We’re trying to market the space. We do have until the beginning of June.”

The space in question was previously a Puccini’s Smiling Teeth and reopened as a Bucceto’s in the spring of 2018 under Heilbrunn’s management. The two brands are sister operations.

Bucceto’s is not the first eatery to leave The Commons in recent years.

Subway, which was located inside the event center’s food court, left in July 2021 after being closed for several months amid the pandemic.

Orange Leaf, also located in The Commons’ food court, terminated its lease in late 2021 but eventually reopened in 2022 under new management.
