McDowell director to lead title services

Megan Shaff

Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. has chosen a new director of title services.

The school board voted Monday to approve the appointment of McDowell Education Center Director Megan Shaff to this role. Shaff will take the place of current title services director Charles Edwards as he moves into the director of secondary education position on July 1, said Superintendent Jim Roberts.

The school corporation’s Title 1 Program provides services and resources to eligible students, educators and families to help foster “educational excellence.” Title 1 is a federal education program that provides financial assistance to schools with high percentages of low-income families to help ensure that all students meet academic benchmarks.

“We’re recommending Megan for this position due to her ability to develop strong relationships with all stakeholders, her experience with budgets and grant applications … and her commitment to the corporation’s strategic plan,” said Roberts.

In discussing her experience and education, he noted that Shaff has a bachelor’s degree in physical education and sports management from Valparaiso University. She also earned a master’s of education and principal licensure from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Her teaching career began at Westfield Middle School, and she joined BCSC in 2005 as a Columbus North High School teacher. Shaff was in that role for seven years, also serving as a department coordinator and volleyball coach. She then worked at CSA New Tech and later McDowell.

Roberts said Shaff has been “very active in the community.” She is the president of Su Casa’s board of directors, a board member for the Bartholomew Consolidated School Foundation, a guiding team member for the Council for Youth Development and a member of Leadership Bartholomew County.

“I appreciate the vote of confidence and the kind words,” Shaff said, following the board’s vote to approve her. “Certainly, it’s always been a team effort.”
