Bartholomew County under winter weather advisory, travel advisory

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County remains under a winter weather advisory and its travel status has been moved to “advisory” due to the ice storm crossing southeastern Indiana.

Light freezing rain mixed with snow is continuing with ice accumulation less than one tenth of an inch, according to Bartholomew County Emergency Management. There is little to no snow accumulation.

Slippery road conditions are being reported for the morning commute and there have been delays on I-65 south of Columbus due to a jack-knifed semi near Seymour and other accidents.

Jennings County and Seymour schools are having eLearning today and Brown County school are on a two-hour delay.

The Indiana Department of Transportation is warning motorists to watch for black ice, especially on bridges and overpasses. Slow down, leave plenty of space between vehicles, and don’t use cruise control, INDOT said.

Crews have been working hard since late last night treating roadways, INDOT said. There is still a potential for slick spots.
