Prep sports notebook: Bull Dogs, Olympian named to All-Region football team

Columbus North’s Cooper Horn and Savion Miles and Columbus East’s Devon Tekulve were named to the All Region 10 football team that was announced last week.

In addition, the Academic All-Region 10 football team was released. North’s Tyler Blythe, Will Davis, Osian Guest, Zac Horn, Cooper Horn, Max Mormino, Nathan Palmer and Cody Thurnall; East’s Tristan Davis and Jacob Guse; Jennings County’s Matt Hines and Teagan Trotter and South Decatur’s Corbin Cassidy, Jake Daugherty, Adam Gainer, Sebastyn Muckerheide, Avery Seegers and Ryan Willoughby were selected.

All-Region selections are eligible to be selected for the annual North-South All-Star Classic in July.

Stahl earns another honor

Columbus East senior Saige Stahl has been named MaxPreps Indiana High School Athlete of the Week for Week 23.

During that week, Stahl recorded 40 points, 14 rebounds and four steals in a 78-44 win against Madison and added 21 points and 12 rebounds in a 68-48 loss to Jennings County.

Locals named HBCA All-District

The Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association All-District girls teams were announced earlier this week. The teams are open only to seniors.

Columbus East’s Saige Stahl and Leah Bachmann, Columbus North’s Lauren Barker and Trinity Lutheran’s Bailey Tabeling made the All-District 3 squad.

All-District selections are eligible to be selected for the HBCA All-Star Game in April.

North bowlers reach state

The Columbus North girls bowling team finished fourth at semistate and advanced to next weekend’s state finals.

Also, North’s Lexie Jones finished third individually and advanced to state in the singles competition.

Rugby Club meets tonight

The Columbus Rugby Football Club will hold a callout meeting at 7 p.m. today at Foundation For Youth for high school boys interested in playing spring rugby.

Wrestlers headed to regional

Thirty-two area wrestlers will compete in Saturday’s Jeffersonville Regional.

Columbus East and Columbus North lead the way with 13 and 12 qualifiers, respectively. The Olympians will have Talon Jessup (106 pounds), Aiden Miller (113), Gage Rutan (120), Liam Krueger (126), Caleb Cooper (132), Bo Wagner (138), Nate Anderson (145), Caleb Kirkpatrick (152), Mitchell Williams (160), Tyler Lake (170), Jackson Fox (182), Tommy Morrill (220) and Patrick McMahon (285). The Bull Dogs will have Nolan Riley (106), Liam Curfman (112), Bryce Hawkins (126), Justice Thornton (132), Jason Shuey (138), Asher Ratliff (145), Josiah Green (152), Liam Phillips (160), Evan Saevre (170), Keller DeSpain (182), Jose Ramirez (195) and Cody Thurnall (220).

Jennings County had seven regional qualifiers — Lane Kirchner (132), Evan Sochacki (138), Jonah Mathews (145), Chris Hernandez (160), Teagan Trotter (170), Vincent Pittman (195) and Xavior Gindhart (220). They will be joined by Brown County’s Jackson Reed (195).

Wrestling begins at 9 a.m. Saturday. The top four in each weight class advance to the Feb. 11 Evansville Semistate.
