COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County sheriff deputies arrested a Nineveh man on multiple charges after a traffic stop Wednesday at U.S. 31 and West County Road 800N for speeding.

Deputy Brandon Sellers initiated the stop at 3:09 p.m., said sheriff office spokesman Detective Dane Duke.

Sellers made contact with the driver, Brian Harmon, 37, of Nineveh, who was found to be a habitual traffic violator, Duke said.

During the traffic stop, a search of the vehicle was conducted which resulted in locating suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, narcotics paraphernalia and a handgun, Duke said.

Harmon was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on the preliminary charges of habitual traffic violator, Level 6 felony, possession of methamphetamine while in possession of a firearm, a Level 5 felony, possession of marijuana, a Class C misdemeanor and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

Harmon was in jail on a $6,500 bond, jail officials said.

“This is the second time in approximately two weeks that one of my deputies has encountered a subject in possession of narcotics and carrying a firearm. This can be a deadly combination that has devastating effects on our community. It also goes to show the danger my deputies can be put in while trying to take these weapons off the street,” Sheriff Chris Lane said.
