Columbus Fire Department promotes three

Armstrong

The Columbus Fire Department announces the promotion of three department members to fill officer vacancies left by the recent retirements. These promotions were effective Jan. 30.

Lt. Leroy Armstrong has been promoted to the rank of captain. Armstrong is a 19-year veteran of the fire department and had previously been promoted to lieutenant in 2019. He holds a Fire Officer certification through the State of Indiana. Additional certifications include: Confined Space Rescue Technician, Paramedic, Hazardous Materials Technician, Rope Rescue Technician, Swift Water Rescue Technician, Vehicle and Machinery Rescue Technician and Fire Instructor.

Firefighter Allen James has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant. James has served 15 years with the Columbus Fire Department. James’ certifications include: Paramedic, Rope Rescue Technician, Swift Water Rescue Technician, Vehicle and Machinery Rescue Technician, Fire Officer and Fire Instructor.

Firefighter Jarrad Mullis has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant. Mullis has served nine years with the Columbus Fire Department. Mullis’ certifications include: Confined Space Rescue Technician, Paramedic, Rope Rescue Technician, Swift Water Rescue Technician, Vehicle and Machinery Rescue Technician, Fire Officer and Fire Instructor. Lieutenant Mullis also serves as a member of the Indiana Task Force One Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team as a logistical specialist.
