Ricky (Rick) Dwayne Henson

NASHVILLE

Mr. Ricky “Rick” Dwayne Henson, son of the late Delbert Henson and Estilene (Anderson) Henson, passed away Friday, January 27th 2023 at the age of 68. He is survived by his wife, Debra (Southerland) Henson, daughter Erin Shockley (husband Ben) daughter Elizabeth Henson, sister Luana (husband David) and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sherry and Larry Bradford, brother-in-law Mike Boffo, and grandchildren Jacob and Miriam Rose Shockley. He was predeceased by his sister Gwen, as well as his parents.

Rick grew up in Beech Grove Indiana, and fondly remembered spending his childhood summers spent in Adams TN on “the farm” with cousins.

He was united in Holy Matrimony to Debra on September 4th, 1976 in a beautiful outdoor wedding. In true fashion, he was an hour late! They had two daughters, and built a long lasting life together. He was a devoted husband and father, in every sense. He was annoyed by any fuss made over him, up to even his last day.

He wore many career hats over the span of his lifetime, including building a successful countertop repair business from scratch. Later in life, he deeply enjoyed his work at Menards in Columbus Indiana, and often would return home energized by his time with his coworkers.

Rick was so loved by truly everyone that knew him. He professed his faith in Jesus Christ, and loved to share that faith wherever he went. The older he became, the more he fixed his eyes on Jesus. It’s because of that faith that we know we will get to hug him again!

He was a builder by nature, enjoying putting things together that he felt were of use. He was blessed to help design and build one of the homes they lived in, as well as a church that he helped to begin. To say he had a servant’s heart would be to do it injustice, as he never met a person he didn’t offer to help in some way. He expressed his love by checking the oil in your car, making sure you had food in your belly, and reminding people to watch for deer on their drive home.

While we know that Rick is worshipping at the feet of Christ in total joy, he has left us with quite a task of living without him. Not a day will go by that he isn’t so terribly missed.
