North gymnasts win on senior night

Columbus North put up its second best gymnastics score of the season Tuesday in easily defeating Roncalli 105.85 to 97.825 on the Bull Dogs’ senior night.

“It’s not a season best, but it was definitely an improvement from last week,” North co-coach Kaitlyn Rediker said. “We had some people make routines that we haven’t had them make before, so we’ve been really been working hard in practice and we saw some of those improvements today.”

It was North sophomore Reese Euler that swept all four events and finished first in the all-around competition with a 37.050. She placed first on the vault (9.25), bars (9.35), beam (8.95) and floor (9.5).

“I’m glad with some of the things I did. I’m working on a new vault, so I’m glad I’m working towards that,” Euler said. “I was happy with my bars score after not doing my best at Seymour last week, so I’m glad that improved, and just working on little things like pointing toes and fixing landing on each event.”

For the Bull Dogs, Lindsey Mullis was second on the vault (8.95), bars (8.675) and beam (8.925) and third on the floor (8.875) to finish second in the all-around with a 35.425. Laney Acton finished third on the beam (8.425), fourth on the bars (7.975) and fifth on the vault (8.55) and floor (8.275) to finish fourth in the all-around with a 33.225. Mariame Niang finished fourth on the floor (8.425).

Mullis and Niang are the two seniors competing for the team this year, and Amira Guy is the manager.

“It’s fun to have Lindsey and Mariame, our two competing seniors, in different events and they’ve been really helpful,” Rediker said. “Amira is our manager this year, so she’s been helping with video and doing a lot of things for us.”

North will compete in the Connersville Invitational on Saturday, and then will host the Conference Indiana championship on Monday.

“It’s our second-best season score, so overall, I’m pretty pleased with that,” North co-coach Bob Arthur said. “Of course, coaches are never happy. We would have like to have seen it a little higher, yet, but we did have a few hiccups that were a little uncharacteristic, but overall, I’d say we did a great job.”
