North downs Panthers

BLOOMINGTON — Columbus North picked up its first win at Bloomington South since 2013 with a 51-38 Conference Indiana victory on Friday.

The Bull Dogs (13-6, 2-2) jumped out to a 13-2 lead after one quarter and never were threatened. They led by as many as 18 in the fourth quarter.

Cooper Horn led North with 23 points. Luke Harmon scored nine, and Ty Ferguson added eight.

Panthers top Olympians

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County clinched at least a tie for the Hoosier Hills Conference title with a 74-48 win against Columbus East.

Keegan Manowitz led the Panthers (17-1, 5-0) with 18 points. Carter Kent scored 16, and Darius Thomas added eight.

Ben Sylva scored 18 points to lead the Olympians (1-17, 0-5). Ethan Bumbalough added eight.

Columbus Christian falls

Columbus Christian led 26-25 at halftime, but Horizon Christian rallied for a 68-46 win.

Noah Edwards led the Crusaders (12-14) with 22 points. Peyton Walden added eight.

Lions upset Lancers

SELLERSBURG — Class A No. 10 Edinburgh led 29-26 at halftime, but Rock Creek Academy rallied for a 64-54 victory.

Caleb Dewey led the Lancers (12-7) with 27 points. Conner Ramey scored nine, Jarrett Turner had eight and Braylon Bryant added seven.

Mohawks edge Cougars

GREENSBURG — South Decatur jumped out to a 17-10 lead after one quarter, but Waldron rallied for a 56-54 Mid-Hoosier Conference win.

Dorian Hacker and Dale Peters each scored 14 points to lead the Cougars (9-11, 3-2). Jacob Scruggs had 10, and Drake Skaggs and Jaylynn McMurray each added seven.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Crusaders fall in OT

Legacy Christian outscored Columbus Christian 7-0 in overtime to claim a 56-47 victory.

Sarah Lorimor led the Crusaders (13-8) with 28 points. Emma Murray added 10.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Witt takes 26th, 29th

INDIANAPOLIS — Jennings County junior Avery Witt finished 26th in the 100-yard backstroke and 29th in the 200 freestyle in the preliminaries of the Girls Swimming State Finals.

Witt, who entered as the 29th seed in both events, swam 1 minute, 59.76 seconds in the 200 freestyle and 1:00.22 in the 100 breaststroke. The top eight in each event made today’s championship finals, while the ninth-through-16th-fastest made the consolation finals.

Columbus East junior Gabbie Meier will compete in the diving event beginning at 9 a.m. today at IUPUI’s Indiana University Natatorium.
