TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — IUPUC staged a seventh-inning rally in the second game of a doubleheader Friday, but fell just short in a 4-3 loss to Huntington.
Huntington won the opener 11-0 in the Crimson Pride’s first baseball game in program history.
In the opener, Huntington scored three times in each of the first two innings and outhit the Crimson Pride 11-2. Ben Fricke smacked a double, and Cyrus Robinson had a single for IUPUC.
Payton Dennison gave up seven runs over the first three innings in taking the loss. Hauser graduate Jackson Paradise and Columbus East graduate Alex McComb each allowed one run in one inning of relief.
The Crimson Pride trailed 4-0 going to the seventh inning of the second game before scoring three times on an RBI-single by Wyatt Sutton and a two-out two-run double from John Codner before the Foresters came up with the final out to end it.
Peyton Blinn went 2 for 3 with a double. Colin Fee and Alec Beatty also had hits for IUPUC, which matched Huntington with six hits.
Gavin Haltom stared on the mound and allowed three runs over five innings. Drew Bradley gave up one run in the sixth.
The teams will meet in another doubleheader this afternoon.
