After 11 years in downtown Columbus, a local butcher’s shop and eatery is preparing to close its doors.

The Savory Swine, located at 410 Washington St., announced the news via social media. Owner Lisa Abendroth said that “economic downturn” was the reason for this decision.

“With a saddened heart and a grateful mind, it’s time to publicly confirm The Savory Swine is indeed closing,” the business shared on social media. “We’ve enjoyed nearly 12 years in our location downtown Columbus, and its truly been a pleasure. Please stock your freezers with all your summer favorites, as we will be taking orders for the next six weeks or so.”

The Savory Swine opened in downtown Columbus in May of 2012. Abendroth later opened an offshoot in Indianapolis called The Beerded Swine in March of 2022 and closed in June of that same year, with Abendroth citing a variety of economic factors.

However, while The Savory Swine may be going the way of The Beerded Swine, there is still a way for local fans — or, as the business calls them, “Swiners” —to support individuals from the business.

Swine and Dine, a new culinary-focused experience and event venue, has opened at 412 Washington St., right next door to The Savory Swine. Co-owners Abendroth, Lindy Rix and Catie Rix announced the endeavor in June of 2022.

In regards to whether customers could expect Swine and Dine to offer any of the same products or services as The Savory Swine, Abendroth said, “Any mentions of Swine and Dine should be respected separately.”

According to its social media, Swine and Dine opened on Feb. 3. In addition to its event services, the business also offers meal kits and wine.
