Columbus East gymnastics put up its best score of the season, but unfortunately for the Olympians, it wasn’t enough as visiting Seymour took home the 102.15 to 95.1 victory Monday night to close the regular season.
East’s team score is an improvement from Wednesday’s 93.95 against Owen Valley.
“It’s what we’ve been saying all along — it’s to be better each time that we compete,” East co-coach Katie Menefee said.
“We’re getting ready for sectional, so we’re cleaning everything up at this point and enjoying our last home meet,” added the other co-coach, Melissa Dishinger.
For the Olympians, Cami Warren won the vault (8.75) and placed third on the bars (7.75) and floor (9.0) and fifth on the beam (7.75) to finish third in the all-around with 33.25. Shelby Kendrick was second on the bars (7.9) and fourth on the beam (8.1).
Amelia Fay finished sixth on the vault (8.1) and the beam (7.55), seventh on the floor (7.6) and ninth on the bars (5.65) to place sixth in the all-around with a 28.9. Lauren Dixon took sixth on the floor (7.8), seventh on the vault (8.0) and bars (6.8) and eighth on the beam (5.85) to place seventh in the all-around with a 28.45.
“After the last meet (Wednesday), we came back the next day, and we worked the things that we fell on and that we had issues with,” Menefee said. “We had some really good feedback from the judges tonight in regards to ways that we can change or improve our scores, so that was helpful.”
The Olympians will compete in the Franklin Central Sectional on Friday night.
