Rooks wins twice at NCAA, moves to quarterfinals

TULSA, Okla. — Columbus East graduate and Indiana University senior Graham Rooks pulled two big upsets Thursday on the opening day of the NCAA Wrestling Championships to advance to the final eight at 149 pounds.

Rooks, seeded No. 20, claimed a 4-3 decision against No. 13-seed Kellyn Marsh of North Dakota State. Rooks then took down fourth-seeded Caleb Henson of Virginia Tech in a 5-4 decision.

Rooks will square off against No. 12-seed Shayne Van Ness of Penn State in the quarterfinals,which begin at Noon today. Semifinals start at 8 p.m. today, with placement matches starting at 11 a.m. Saturday and national championship matches at 7 p.m. Saturday.
