Mildred Marine Janes Caffee, 89, of Columbus, passed away on March 15, 2023 at The Belmont at Tipton Lakes – Senior Living.
Mildred was born June 21, 1933 in Edmonton, Kentucky, the daughter of Oren and Bertha Hayes Word. She married Bee Gee Janes on June 20, 1951, and they shared 35 wonderful years together before his death on December 29, 1986.
Mildred was a hard worker all throughout her life. She worked many jobs, from cleaning houses to working in several factories. Mildred loved sewing and making quilts. It brought great joy to her life to be able to gift many of her family members with a quilt that she had made.
Mildred is survived by her daughters Becky (Billy) Harper of Columbus, Debera (Bob) Abner of Scipio, and Linn (Mark Acton) of Columbus; grandchildren Jason (Shanon) Harper, Lynetta (Bobby) Waddle, Lynelle Abner, and James Abner; great-grandchildren Zack Waddle, Jacob Waddle, Elisabeth Milvert, Hunter Harper, and Ashton Harper; great-great-grandchildren Theodore and Genevieve Milvert, and Henry Waddle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bee Gee Janes on December 29, 1986; brothers Leron, Charles, and Neal Word; as well as sisters Lois McFarland, Maxine Estes, Aline Stephens, and Betty Gibson.
The funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at the Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Phillip Knight officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until time of services Saturday. Mildred will be laid to rest next to her husband at Garland Brook Cemetery.
