‘Great Decisions’ series begins Thursday

IUPUC and Mill Race Center will present “Great Decisions: Economic Warfare” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Mill Race Center.

Guest speaker Michael De Groot, Ph.D., assistant professor of International Studies, Indiana University. Bloomington, will discuss economic warfare, which includes measures from implementing sanctions to fomenting labor strikes.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, economic warfare has been the main means for the west to challenge Russia. De Groot will consider the question: How effective will these sanctions be at convincing Russia to cease its war?

Great Decisions is America’s largest discussion program on world affairs. Every year, communities around the country convene to discuss eight international topics chosen by a panel of experts. Locally, IUPUC and Mill Race Center will present a forum every Thursday, 6:30 to 8 p.m., for the next eight weeks, through May 11.

This program is sponsored nationally by the Foreign Policy Association and presented locally by IUPUC’s Division of Liberal Arts and Mill Race Center. Great Decisions is supported with a grant from Indiana University’s Innovate Indiana initiative.
