Rose Marie Eder

NORTH VERNON

Rose Marie Eder, 90, of North Vernon, passed away surrounded by her family at 2:45 a.m. on Friday, March 17, 2023, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Rose went to be with the Lord on the same day her husband passed away in 1989.

Born August 8, 1932, in Vernon, she was the daughter of the late William and Florence (Trapp) Simpson. She married Richard “Pete” Eder on November 25, 1967. They shared 21 years of marriage until his passing on March 17, 1989.

Rose was a 1950 graduate of Vernon High School and retired from Cummins Engine Company; she had previously worked for the former Regal Rugs and Muscatatuck State Developmental Center. After retirement, Rose provided homecare for the elderly in her community. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in North Vernon and a Clionian Society Alumni. Rose enjoyed playing bingo, watching racing, basketball, and sports. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons, Eric (Kathryn) Johnson of Butlerville and Gary (Kristina) Johnson of Westport; her daughter, Judy White of Greensburg; brother, Robert O. Simpson of Columbus; sister, Margaret Lee of North Vernon; grandchildren, Paul (Kiana) Johnson of Commiskey, Andrew (Nikki) Johnson of Butlerville, Shannon Luttel and Eva (Terry) King, both of Greensburg, Nathan (Charity) Cundiff, Shane Johnson, Jeremiah Johnson, and Walter (Debbie) Johnson, all of Westport, and Matthew (Kerry) Johnson of Brownstown; twenty six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, William and John Simpson; sister, Joann Crowe; son-in-law, David White; grandchildren, Luke William Johnson and William Cundiff; and great-grandchild, Demitria Luttel.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023, at Dove-Sharp &Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon with the Rev. Jerry Byrd officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorials in honor of Rose may be made through the funeral home to the Luke William Johnson Memorial Scholarship through the Jennings County Community Foundation.
