Banner day at Atterbury-Bakalar

During much of its heyday, Bakalar Air Force Base, formerly Atterbury Air Base, served under the United States flag that lacked stars for Alaska and Hawaii, the last of the 50 states admitted to the union.

The Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum, now an attraction at Columbus Municipal Airport, recently received a reminder of those days with the presentation of a new 48-star American flag. The flag is displayed along with flags representing all branches of the US military.

The flag was donated last month by the Bartholomew County Veteran’s Service Office.
