Seymour police begin death investigation

SEYMOUR — Seymour police are investigating the death of a Jennings County man found Friday facedown in a creek below the Burkhart Boulevard overpass on the city’s east side.

A forensic autopsy was conducted Monday on the body of 37-year-old Wayne R. Gribbons of North Vernon, according to a news release issued Tuesday morning by Lt. C.J. Foster with Seymour Police Department.

Foster said investigators conducted interviews and collected evidence from the scene after Gribbons’ body was pulled from the water by a person walking to work Friday, Foster said.

The male reporting the discovery of Gribbon’s body at 1:53 p.m. Friday said he had found a male unconscious in the creek in the 1500 block of East Fourth Street Road.

Foster said the cause of death is pending the results of toxicology tests, which are not yet available.
