Letter: Where are lawmakers as guns are top cause of child death?

Is it possible that our legislators in this state have their priorities a bit misplaced?

According to the New York Times, gun violence recently surpassed car accidents as the leading cause of death for American children. Let that sink in. Gun violence — not automobile accidents, cancer or other diseases. Gun violence.

Yet our elected officials in the state of Indiana have decided it is far more important to pass legislation against gender affirming health care for transgender youth. Really? How many children under the age of 18 have sought gender reassignment in the state of Indiana vs how many have been killed by gun violence? My guess is not many, but by all means lets give people more guns and let them carry them openly and wave them about like a misplaced symbol of freedom.

The number one cause of death to American children is gun violence. Shame on all of us for allowing this to happen.
