Herman August Otte, 89, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2023 at Willow Crossing Health and Rehab. Herman was born July 2, 1933 in Jackson County to Walter and Clara Otte.
He grew up in Seymour and was a 1951 graduate of Seymour High School. In 1954, he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1956.
He married Marie McIntyre on October 20, 1957 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour. She preceded him in death on July 18, 2021.
Herman worked at Cummins and Arvins for several years before retiring to take care of his son, Steve Otte. He was a long-time member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed attending antique engine shows, and never missed his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Herman is survived by his son, Paul (Joan) Otte; grandchildren, Brian (Hannah), Sara, and Carly Otte; and his great-granddaughters, Amelia and Scarlett Otte.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Otte; his parents; his son, Steve Otte; infant daughter, Janet Lou; brothers, Robert and Alvin Otte; and close nephew, Larry Shepherd.
A funeral service for Herman will be held Wednesday, April 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Pastors Mark Teike and Tim Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Friends may gather for visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18 at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
