Letter: Former sheriff endorses Mary Ferdon for mayor

From: Matthew A. Myers

Columbus

During my eight years of service as Bartholomew County sheriff, we emphasized the importance of collaboration with Columbus city government in many areas. We created the Joint Narcotics Task Force, established a working relationship with the Columbus Police Department in areas that included a joint SWAT team and working to decrease deaths from drug overdoses. Mary Ferdon was an integral part of that cooperation.

As director of city administration, Mary spearheaded the Alliance for Substance Abuse Progress Bartholomew County (ASAP). Mary’s valued input and direction helped create this much-needed asset in the war on drugs. Mary has proven leadership with her invitation and outreach for the sheriff’s office to join the Intelligence Led Policing Unit, which led to more than a 50% drop in thefts.

Mary always helped tackle the tough public safety issues that threaten our community. She was always willing to go the extra mile to help make Columbus an even better and safer place to live. Mary has the leadership skills and proven track record to be the next mayor of Columbus. I am proud to endorse Mary Ferdon and ask my friends and the citizens of Columbus to vote for her in the 2023 election.
