It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Norma Alice Cosby, a kind and loving woman who touched the lives of everyone she met. Norma passed away peacefully at 7:03 p.m., on Monday, May 8, 2023, at Covered Bridge in Seymour, Indiana, surrounded by her family. She was 91 years old.
Norma was born on December 12, 1931, to Hobert and Edith McKinley at Wheatland, Indiana. She married the love of her life, Elmer Overton Cosby, and together they shared a beautiful life until his passing on September 20, 1999. Norma leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness in her three children: Brenda (Alvin) Maschino of Four Corners, Indiana; Roger (Julie) Cosby of Mansfield, Texas; and William (Patty) Cosby of North Vernon, Indiana.
Norma was a doting grandmother to her seven grandchildren: Rex (Vicki) Maschino, Randy (Lisa) Cosby, Matthew (Cyndi) Cosby, Nick (Micheal) Maschino, Robert Cosby, Alisa Woodson, and Jason Cosby. She was also blessed with 26 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
Beyond her immediate family, Norma cherished her extended family, including Rusty and Sherri Derrick, Allen Foster, Andy and Lisa Seiner, and Keith and Myra Rogers. She loved them as her own for their kindness and assistance.
Norma graduated from Wheatland High School in 1949 and began her working career as a long-distance telephone operator in Seymour, Indiana. She retired as a supervisor after 40 years of service from the Muscatatuck State Hospital and Training Center. Norma was a woman of faith and a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in North Vernon. She was also a past member of the Eagles Lodge, Eastern Star, and Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority.
In addition to her husband, Elmer, and her parents, Hobert and Edith, Norma was preceded in death by her brother, Marian McKinley, and Greg Foster. She will be missed by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends and loved ones at Sawyer &Pickett Funeral and Cremation on Thursday, May 11, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, on Friday, May 12, 2023. Burial at Butlerville Cemetery. Rev. Joe Wyatt will be officiating.
Norma’s passing is a great loss to all who knew her. She will be remembered as a kind, generous, and loving woman who always put others before herself. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to know her.
