BCSC: Public engagement meeting set for Monday

Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp.’s two board subcommittees are moving forward with their work, with one group set to meet again and the other expecting to bring recommendations before the school board in June.

The public engagement subcommittee will meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the BCSC administration building, said board member and subcommittee chair Rich Stenner. The group typically meets in the BCSC boardroom.

Additionally, board member Todd Grimes, who chairs the school board agenda subcommittee, said that this group plans to present a first reading of its recommendations at the school board’s next meeting, which is set for 6:30 p.m. on June 12 in the administration building. They would then ask the board to vote on these recommendations in July.

Each subcommittee is made up of three school board members tasked with coming up with recommendations on how the board can improve in these two respective areas. The public engagement group includes Stenner, Dale Nowlin and Logan Schulz. The meeting agenda group includes Grimes, Pat Bryant and Jason Major.

“We are not as far along as Mr. Grimes and his subcommittee, but we’re making good progress,” said Stenner. “And we will help BCSC do a better job of public engagement in the future, I’m sure.”

In addition to these meetings, the Bartholomew Consolidated School Board plans to meet in closed session at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday for school board member training. Indiana’s Open Door Law allows school boards to have this session under the wording, “To train school board members with an outside consultant about the performance of the role of the members as public officials.”
