Track athletes named Academic All-State

Numerous local athletes have been selected to this year’s Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches Boys and Girls Track Academic All-State teams.

Columbus East seniors Norah Dwenger and Chloe Krueger, Columbus North seniors Natalie Ho and Jessica Meza and junior Kenzie Pendleton, Hauser senior Reiss Kistler and South Decatur seniors Elizabeth Flessner and Bridget Nobbe and junior Clair Schoettmer are on the girls first team.

North seniors Karla Maldonado and Sydney Morlok and junior Abbi Schiefer, Hauser senior Bronwyn Newcomb and junior Grace Hattabaugh, Brown County seniors Hadley Gradolf and Elizabeth Roush and junior Kayleigh Austin and Jennings County junior Cheyeanna Leslie are girls honorable mention selections.

North seniors Sam Hobbeheydar and Charlie Smith and junior Frankie Polyak; Brown County seniors Chase Austin, Aidan Schilling and Ethan Spiece and junior Charlie Webb; Jennings County senior Eli Wahlman and junior Lain Ernstes and South Decatur junior Damon Gearhart are on the boys first team.

North seniors Clayton Guthrie, Kellen Hottell, Adler Larson and Carson Zhang and junior Derek Arau-Ortiz; Hauser juniors Colin Kistler and Will Walters and South Decatur seniors Chase Kalli and Jack Hamilton and juniors Bjarne Karsten and Michael Stier are honorable mention selections.

Johnson commits to Concordia

Anthony Johnson, who led Columbus North to a Class 3A state runner-up finish, has committed to continue his soccer career at Concordia University of Wisconsin.

Johnson, a midfielder, was named to the United Soccer Coaches Association Great Lakes All-Region team last fall. He also was The Republic Boys Soccer Player of the Year.

Locals selected to All-MHC teams

Several members of the Mid-Hoosier Conference champion Hauser softball team an MHC co-champion Hauser and South Decatur baseball team have been named to this year’s All-MHC squads, and Hauser’s Andy Brunner and Nathan Long are the MHC softball and baseball coaches of the year.

The Jets’ Lucie Asher, Izzy Brunner, Paige McDaniel, Kyra Meister and Hannah Taylor made the All-Conference softball team, along with Edinburgh’s MacKenzie Bieker, Gracie Crawhorn, Kenna Streeval and Kyah Streeval (honorary) and South Decatur’s Molly Eden. Hauser’s Haylin Campbell and Reagan Johnson, Edinburgh’s Alix Streeval and South Decatur’s Lydia Witkemper are honorable mention selections.

Hauser’s Stryker Gill, Zayne McCanlis, Owen McIntyre and Nathan Worland and South Decatur’s Brady Lane, Devin Pate and Avery Seegers made the All-Conference baseball team. Hauser’s Holden Pittman and Simeon Wasil and Edinburgh’s Jared Myers and Jarrett Turner are honorable mention.

North-East golf match moved up

Thursday’s golf match between Columbus North, Columbus East and Providence has been moved up to a 2:30 p.m. start.

The match will take place at Harrison Lake Country Club.

North girls to hold basketball camp

Columbus North girls basketball will hold its summer youth camp Tuesday through June 2.

Camp for incoming fifth-through-eighth graders will be from 1 to 3 p.m. daily with a cost of $75. Camp for incoming second-through-fourth graders will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. daily with a cost of $70.

Hauser girls to hold spring mini-camp

The Hauser girls basketball team will host a spring mini-camp Tuesday through June 1 at the Hauser High School fieldhouse.

Girls entering Grades 1-through-6 will be from 6 to 7 p.m., and girls entering grades 7-through-12 will be from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. Cost is $30 for Grades 1-through-9 and free for those entering Grades 10-through-12.

East to hold boys, girls hoops camps

New Columbus East girls and boys basketball coaches Kaitlyn Phillips and Perry Nash will be holding camps this summer.

The girls basketball camp will be June 21 to 23. Times are 5 to 6:15 p.m. for girls entering Kindergarten through second grade, 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. for girls entering Grades 3-5 and 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. for girls entering Grades 6-8.

The boys basketball camp will be July 17 to 20. Times are 4 to 5 p.m. for Grades 1-3, 4 to 5:30 p.m. for Grades 4-6 and 5:30 to 7 p.m. for Grades 7-8.

North sets date for Blue and White Night

Columbus North has set the date for its annual Blue and White Night. The event will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 5 to kick off the 2023-24 school year.

The athletics department will host an informational meeting for all student-athletes and their parents in Memorial Gym, and All-Sports passes will be sold throughout the evening. There will be a “Dog Bowl” involving all North fall, winter and spring sports teams at Max Andress Field.
