COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested two men after a pursuit following an attempted traffic stop at 7:32 p.m. Wednesday near Ninth Street and McClure Road.

Deputy Billy Bryant initiated a traffic stop there on a vehicle he believed was occupied by a subject with warrants out of Bartholomew County as well as Jackson County. After Bryant activated his emergency lights, the vehicle took off.

The driver of the vehicle, Nicholas Shutters, 27, Columbus, began driving through residential yards in the area which led him to crash into a fence, said Sgt. Dane Duke, sheriff department spokesman. Shutters and the passenger Charles Barr, Jr., 44, Columbus fled from the crashed vehicle on foot, but they were apprehended after a short foot pursuit, Duke said.

Barr was arrested on the charge of resisting law enforcement and has since been released from jail after posting bail, Duke said.
