Atterbury to have Community Day

Land around Camp Atterbury, including Atterbury Fish and Wildlife Area and private land throughout southern Johnson County, is part of a 3.5 million acre area in Indiana included in the Sentinel Landscapes program. The program offers landowners the resources to maintain and preserve the land around those bases, whether that’s from sustainable farming practices, wetland restoration or planting trees.

EDINBURGH — Camp Atterbury will have a Community Day celebration open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 24.

Tthe Indiana National Guard facility will be open with tours, and opportunities will be offered to watch live-fire and weapons demonstrations along with food vendors, displays and activities for children.

There will be a 5K Run/Walk/Ruck which will begin at 8 a.m. The link to sign up for the race can be found on the Camp Atterbury Facebook page.

The Camp Atterbury Museum, housed at the Welcome Center just before getting to the Main Gate, will be open all day for visitors who want to learn about the history of the facility which was founded in 1942 just after the start of World War II.

Entrance for Community Day will be through the Schoolhouse Road Gate on Old Hospital Road (East County Road 800S just off of U.S. 31 South).
