North sweeps Bears

SHELBYVILLE — Columbus North picked up its first win of the season, a 25-19, 27-25, 25-11 victory Thursday at Shelbyville.

Kennedy Horn led the Bull Dogs (1-1) with 10 kills and three aces. Holly Evans recorded 15 assists, Karen Dutro had one solo and two assist blocks and Morgan Osborn notched 20 digs.

Also for North, Dutro pounded seven kills, Reese Edwards tallied 14 assists and Katelynn Mabis added five kills, two block assists and two aces. Kaitlin White contributed five kills, Horn had three block assists, Elaina Penrod added two block assists and Osborn served two aces.

Hauser wins in 4

OSGOOD — Hauser bounced back from a second-set setback to post a 25-20, 16-25, 25-16, 25-17 win at Jac-Cen-Del.

Kayden Miller led the Jets (2-1) with 24 assists and 11 digs. Kenze Bostic pounded 18 kills, Aniston Bostic and Paige McDaniel each had four blocks and Mikayla Miller served four aces.

Also for Hauser, McDaniel and Aniston Bostic each tallied six kills, Haylin Campbell and Maley Jordan each recorded two assists and Jordan and Charleston Gelfius each had one block. Gracie Blair notched 11 digs, Mattie Foster added 10 digs and two aces and Aniston Bostic and Campbell each served two aces.

East falls to Franklin

FRANKLIN — Columbus East came close in the second set, but fell 25-10, 26-24, 25-18 at Franklin.

Chloe Gilley led the Olympians (0-2) with 13 digs and two aces. Caroline Frost pounded eight kills, Krea Martin recorded 18 assists and Anika Jenkins had one solo and two assist blocks.

Also for East, Jenna Guse tallied four kills and eight digs, and Martin had nine digs and one ace. Jenkins notched four kills, Kimberly Carothers had one block assist and Frost served two aces.

Cougars sweep Lancers

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh was close in the first set, but South Decatur claimed a 25-23, 25-17, 25-18 Mid-Hoosier Conference win.

Zsophia Sharp led the Cougars (2-0, 1-0) with 14 kills, three blocks and 20 digs. Makayla Somers recorded 21 assists, and Paige McQueen served two aces.

Also for South Decatur, Somers tallied six kills and 15 digs, and McQueen notched 18 digs. Molly Eden pounded five kills, Taylor Somers had one solo and two assist blocks, Elizabeth Bennett added three assist blocks and McQueen notched 18 digs.

MacKenzie Bieker recorded 16 kills and six blocks, and Jessica Walsh had 29 digs and three aces to lead the Lancers (1-4, 0-1). Kyah Streeval notched 35 assists.

Also for Edinburgh, Zoey Sida tallied seven kills, 20 digs and two aces. Walsh pounded seven kills, Kenna Streeval added 20 digs and Kyah Streeval served one ace.

Bull Dogs blank Owls

SEYMOUR — Columbus North picked up its first win of the season, a 4-0 victory at Seymour.

The Bull Dogs (1-1) scored twice in each half. Avery Baker opened the scoring in the third minute, Gracie Merritt scored in the 14th minute, Baker connected again in the 54th minute and Paige Mora finished the scoring in the 75th minute.

Rachel Merritt had an assist for North, which outshot the Owls 19-1. Erica Kaufman played the first 65 minutes in goal, and Lydia Kushman finished the final 15 minutes to combine on the shutout.

Pirates edge Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County took its first loss of the season, a 1-0 setback against Charlestown.

Alayna Phillips recorded six saves for the Panthers (1-1).

GIRLS GOLF

North routs Royals

Erin Hopkins won medalist honors with a 37 to lead Columbus North to a 181-221 win against Roncalli at Harrison Lake Country Club.

Lindsey Hartwell carded a 38 for the Bull Dogs. Ana Pavlov added a 52, Kara Buntin shot 54 and Harper Andresen had a 59.

Eagles take second

TRAFALGAR — Brown County finished second in a tri match at Tameka Woods. Greenwood Christian Academy won with a 201 to 222 for the Eagles and 238 for host Indian Creek.

Lily VanNess led Brown County with a 42. Savannah Poling carded a 55, Chloe Poling added a 52, Caitlynn Lookebill shot 69 and Caitlin Seet had a 70.

Lancers take tri

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh scored a 228 at Timbergate. Morristown and Oldenburg Academy had only three golfers, one short of the number needed to score as a team.

Macie Blandford won medalist honors with a 46 to lead the Lancers. Izzy Richardson added a 48. Bella Turner shot 64 and Sophia Pace had a 70.

Eagles top Jets

NASHVILLE — Hauser scored first, but Brown County netted three unanswered goals to claim a 3-1 victory in the season opener for both teams.

Carter Norcutt tallied two goals, and Eli Webb added one for the Eagles. Marek Reeves recorded three saves.

Ethan House scored off an assist from Lakota Robbins for the Jets. Luke Bruner posted 11 saves.

Bulldogs top Panthers

NEW ALBANY — Jennings County won the No. 1 singles spot, but New Albany took the other four to claim a 4-1 victory.

Parker Bales beat Sam Seigel 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for the Panthers (0-2).

Jennings’ Ryan Schuck fell to Cooper Anderson 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and Isaac Lightner lost to Asher Chaudry 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Brady Sentz and Ty Zohrlaut fell to Blaine Hamilton and Ben Seigel 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Cole Skinner and Rider Ruddick lost to Caleb Bradshaw and Sarash Chaudry 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

GIRLS CROSS-COUNTRY

Panthers take second

SEYMOUR — Jennings County opened its season with a runner-up finish out of five teams in the Seymour Invitational. Seymour won with 31 points to 44 for the Panthers.

Molly Wathen led Jennings with a second-place finish in 21 minutes, 54 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Haley Vogel took second in 22:25, while Alana Watts was ninth (22:44), Avery Willhite 15th (23:37) and Addie Otte 16th (23:38).
