A few entertainment suggestions from the area’s activities calendar.
1) I have been around here long enough to remember in 1990 when then-folk-pop artist Michael Martin Murphey, best known for his 1975 mega-hit “Wildfire,” performed with the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic at the Tipton Lakes Marina. Murphey, a multiple Grammy nominee, has performed mostly country and bluegrass in recent years. He’ll be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Brown County Playhouse, 70 S. Van Buren St. in Nashville. Information: browncountyplayhouse.org.
2) What’s perhaps as sweet as Halloween candy this time of year? Probably the fact that the Columbus City Band, led by conductor Paige Chadwick and associate conductor Karen Stonehill, pictured here in a playful shot, have taken the time to prep some spookily seasonal tunes for the holiday for a special, free concert at 2 p.m. Sunday at The Commons. The ensemble, filled with musicians who perform with a range of other groups, always has been one of the more fun collection of characters to cover. Information: Facebook page for Columbus City Band.
3) A range of artisans and crafts people will be on hand for the Mill Race Center Art Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the center at 900 Lindsey St. in Columbus. Food will be available for purchase during the juried show. The free event is also a good time to get an idea of the wide variety of offerings at the center for people 50-plus.
