The Columbus North wrestlers are showing a flair for the dramatic.
Two days after pulling out a one-point win with a final-match pin against Decatur Central, the Bull Dogs claimed another close one in Saturday’s championship match of the North Duals when they edged Westfield 42-39 to take the title.
North had beaten Madison 54-21, Guerin Catholic 66-3 and Class A No. 10 Cascade 48-33 in their pool before downing Bloomington North 58-24 in the championship bracket to reach the final.
Justice Thornton (138 pounds) went 5-0 with five pins for the Bull Dogs. Asher Ratliff (157) and Alex Lozano (285) also went 5-0.
Liam Curfman (106/113), Jason Shuey (126), Cohen Long (132) and Josiah Green (144/150) all went 4-1; while Koleton Sinnock (175) and Jonathan Morales (215) each went 3-2. Jackson Haston (150) went 3-0, and Joseph Cloud (144) went 2-0.
Brown County fell to Westfield 78-6, Bloomington North 72-9, Western Boone 72-12, Madison 54-23 and Guerin Catholic 54-18 to finish eighth.
Jackson Reed (215) went 5-0 for the Eagles. Charlie Webb (144) went 3-2.
