FRANKLIN — Second-seeded Columbus East bounced back from a semifinal loss in Saturday’s Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association Class 3A state duals by beating No. 4-seed and host Franklin 48-19 to take third-place.
Ethan Poling (106 pounds), Talon Jessup (113), Gage Rutan (126), Caleb Kirkpatrick (138), Lincoln Cooper (157) and Tyler Lake (175) all won by pin for the Olympians. Dominic Piper (285), Caleb Cooper (144) and Nate Anderson (150) won by major decision.
East dropped a 38-29 decision to No. 3-seed Floyd Central in the semifinals. The Olympians and Highlanders were tied at 29-29 with two matches remaining before Floyd Central came through with a pin and an overtime decision to claim the victory.
Jessup (113), Kirkpatrick (138), and Anderson (150) won by pin for East. Caleb Cooper (144) and Clayton Miller (165) won by major decision, and James Moss (215) won by decision.
The Olympians, who received a first-round bye in the 12-team tournament, beat No. 7-seed Greenfield-Central 40-30 in the quarterfinals. Poling (106), Jessup (113), Rutan (126), Kirkpatrick (138) and Lincoln Cooper (157) won by pin. Anderson (150) won by major decision, and Caleb Cooper (144) won by decision.
