The Columbus Fire Department has announced the retirement of four department members with a combined 98 years of service to the City of Columbus.
- Captain Scott Bonnell, a 27-year veteran, joined the Columbus Fire Department on May 17, 1996. Bonnell served in numerous roles during his career with the CFD including firefighter EMT, master mechanic and fire investigator/fire inspector. Bonnell’s official retirement date was Jan. 2.
- Lieutenant Jay Smith, also with 27 years of service, also joined CFD on May 17, 1996. A paramedic firefighter, Smith retires from his assignment as company officer of fire station #6 on Battalion A. Smith’s official retirement date was Jan. 4.
- Captain Joshua Allman joined the department on April 27, 2001. Allman, an advanced emergency medical technician, had served as a lieutenant officer prior to his 2021 promotion to captain. Allman retires from his assignment as company officer of fire station #6 on Battalion B and retires with 22 years of service. Allman’s official retirement date was Jan. 2.
- Paramedic firefighter Michael Miles joined the Columbus Fire Department on June 11, 2001. Miles retired from his assignment as paramedic firefighter at fire station #6 on Battalion B. Miles’ official retirement date is Jan. 2. Miles served 22 years with the department.
