Clara I. Jackman

COLUMBUS, INDIANA

Clara Hook Jackman, (b. December 13, 1944 – d. January 5, 2024) passed away peacefully at Columbus Regional Hospital with her family at her side.

Born in Osgood, Indiana, Clara graduated from Jac-Cen-Del High School in 1962. Clara moved to Columbus and worked as a ticket seller at the Crump Theatre where she met Leslie Jackman. Clara and Leslie were married April 13, 1964, and on September 13, 1964, their son, Lelsie Jackman Jr. was born.

In the 1970’s, Clara was a librarian assistant at Fodrea Elementary School, in the 1980’s, she worked as a waitress at Lucas Brothers Sandwich Shop on State Street, and in the 1990’s, she worked as a teacher’s assistant in the Columbus North High School C4 Vocational Education Program. She retired in early 2000 due to her health.

She enjoyed reading books, watching movies, taking care of her plants, and calling WCSI to talk with John Foster. She also enjoyed going to lunches with her girlfriends from high school, playing solitaire on the computer and watching Jeopardy.

Clara is survived by her son, Leslie Jackman Jr.; daughter-in-law, Denice Jackman; granddaughter, Tabatha Jackman; step-grandson and his wife, Tray and Shelby Buchanan; step-great grandson, Kylo Buchanan; and her sister, Nancy Bruns of Plainfield, Indiana.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leslie, June 4, 2014; two brothers; and two sisters.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; The Reverend John Parsley will officiate. The funeral service will live stream at barkesweaverglick.com.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday. Clara will be entombed next to her husband in the Garland Brook Mausoleum
