COLUMBUS
Martha Dimple Hitch, 87, of Columbus, passed from this life at 2:22 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mrs. Hitch was born January 15, 1936, in Columbia, Kentucky, the daughter of James Robert and Mary Jane Smith Pierce.
She married Eugene Hitch June 5, 1954; he preceded her in death December 19, 2006.
Martha was formerly employed at Cummins Engine Company where she served for several years.
She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Union Church.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, browsing through Facebook and babysitting for family and nonfamily members.
Survivors include her children, Marilyn (John) Winright of Michigan, Patsy Battin, Penny (Charles) Pedigo, Donald Hitch and Samuel Hitch all of Columbus; grandchildren, Christy (Richard) Anderson, Joshua (Jessica) Winright, Royce (Taylor) Burns, Jayson whom she raised (Kealy) George, Caleb Winright, Brandon (Kayla) Battin, Dustten Hitch and Samantha Hitch; ten great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brother, Ernest Pierce of Franklin; several nieces, nephews and her dog, Febbie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Lucille Richards, Radis Pierce, James Pierce, Nancy Burton, Quinn Pierce, Delta Patton and J.B. Pierce; and a daughter, Betty Vannice.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Kevin Metz officiating.

Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2024 ,and 9:00 a.m. to time of service.
She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Bethal Baptist Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
