Prep sports notebook: Jennings girls hoops making history

It is looking likely that the Jennings County girls basketball team will finish with its most wins in a season since the 2001-02 season, when it went 19-3.

The Panthers, ranked No. 6 in Class 4A in this week’s Indiana Coaches of Girl’s Sports Association poll, currently sit at 17-3 with four games remaining against Columbus East on Thursday, Warren Central on Saturday, Rushville on Monday and 4A No. 7 Franklin on Jan. 25.

Jennings has clinched at least a tie for the Hoosier Hills Conference title and can win it outright with a win against East. The Panthers’ three losses this season were to 3A No. 2 Hamilton Heights, 4A No. 3 Columbia City and 4A No. 4 Center Grove.

Jennings will play in a sectional at Floyd Central that includes defending 4A state champion Bedford North Lawrence. Jennings beat the Stars 58-41 two weeks ago. The Panthers will be seeking their first sectional title since 2005.
