COLUMBUS
James “Jim” Henry Sachleben, 76, of Columbus, passed from this life at 9:17 a.m. Sunday, January 14, 2024, at U of L Health Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
Jim was born September 1, 1947, to J. Leonard and Rebecca (Davis) Sachleben. A lifelong member and serving elder of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He married the love of his life Paula C. Harrell on October 12, 1974. In their 49 years of love they enjoyed traveling, serving in Children’s Ministry, and spending time with their #1 girl Faith! The last 32 years Jim has been the owner of Dairy Queen of Columbus Center. His dedicated employees were like extended family. Also volunteering at Clarity which brought him much joy. Jim was an avid model planes enthusiast, a founding member of BCRC Fliers. He loved watching sprint car races, traveling all over Indiana and Ohio with their close friends Larry and Sue Nordman. And he never missed an Indy 500 since 1957! His love lives on in his loving wife Paula; his two sons, James (Ashley) Sachleben and Patrick Sachleben; his “Best Buddy” granddaughter, Faith and newest granddaughter, Freyja (Sachleben) all of Columbus; his brother, David L. (Beverly) Sachleben of Indianapolis; eleven nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, LuAnn (Denny) Craft of Wabash; and a brother-in-law, Tim (Deb) Harrell of Greenwood.
He was welcomed home by his parents, and two grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2024, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with the Revs. Mark Teike and Tim Carter officiating.
Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and 9:00 a.m. to time of service at the church.
He will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery.
