Panther teams take second in Big Blue Relays

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County’s boys and girls both finished second Thursday in the Panthers’ Big Blue Relays.

Brownstown Central won the boys meet with 75 points to 70 for Jennings, 50 for Bedford North Lawrence and 42 for Madison. Seymour edged the Panthers 74.5 to 72 in the girls meet, while BNL had 49.5 and Brownstown 47.

Rachael Manning broke the girls school record of 9 feet in the pole vault in teaming with Paula Busquets to win that event (16-6). Manning also won the 100 meters (13.09 seconds), and Trinity Burke took the 100 hurdles (18.12). Aylah Belding teamed with Ilene Hifo to win the high jump (10-1) and with Busquets to capture the long jump (28-11). Manning, Belding, Hifo and Sasha Hicks won the sprint medley relay (1:59.28).

For the boys, Will Barnes won the 110 hurdles (15.90), Blaine Ison took the 100 in a school-and meet-record 11.05 and Branden Braun and Barnes captured the long jump (41-1 1/4). Braun, Loki Hifo, JoJo Hifo and Ison broke meet and school records in the 4×100 relay (43.30). Braun, Logan Hifo, JoJo Hifo and Ison broke meet and school records in the 4×200 (1:31.89). JoJo Hifo, Dawson Leak, Kraedyn Young and Braun broke the meet record in 4×400 relay (3:30.02).
