Jennings deputies arrest North Vernon man on multiple charges after high speed chase

NORTH VERNON, Ind. — Jennings County Sheriff deputies arrested a North Vernon man on multiple charges after a high speed chase at 11:51 a.m. Monday.
Chief Deputy Cody Low was attempting to conduct a traffic stop on a tan 2001 GMC for speeding on North Base Road in Sandcreek Township when the chase began, deputies said.
Before catching up to the vehicle, the driver accelerated and began passing other motorists. The vehicle continued northbound on North Base Road through Brewersville. The fleeing driver struck another vehicle as it passed. The vehicle continued north into Decatur County where Low was able to catch up to the vehicle and it was discovered that the vehicle was reported stolen through Jennings County in late April.
The driver continued attempting to elude law enforcement through Main Street in Westport then back into Jennings County on County Road 500E. The vehicle reached speeds over 120 mph on County Road 500E. Deputy Kyle Lee was able to get tire deflation devices set up in front of the pursuit. The vehicle struck the tire deflation device and continued south to Private Road 685N where the driver then jumped out of his moving vehicle and began to flee on foot.
Despite numerous warnings regarding Chief Deputy Low’s K-9 Partner Axel being released, the male continued to flee. Axel was released and gave chase through a grass pasture into a wooded area. Axel located and apprehended the male in the upper right arm where he was held until Low was able to assist. Deputy Lee and Chief Deputy Low were able to subdue the male after a brief struggle.
