Deputies arrest North Vernon suspect after accident

JENNINGS COUNTY — Jennings County Sheriff deputies were sent to a church at about 2:40 a.m. Friday about a vehicle that had crashed into a ditch after a verbal altercation between a male and a female.

Jennings County deputies said the female told dispatch that during the argument, the male told the female to leave the vehicle, at which time, he got into the driver’s seat and drove away, before crashing into the ditch near the church parking lot.

A short time later Deputy Blake Maynard arrived on scene. The female informed Maynard that the male fled across an open field area behind the church. Maynard observed the male running across the open area and initiated a foot pursuit. After a lengthy foot pursuit Maynard detained the male subject, deputies said.

The male subject was identified as Andrew Eli Saenz-Munoz, 21, of North Vernon. He was transported to the hospital for a blood draw and jail clearance. He was then transported to the Jennings County Jail where he is being held in lieu of $1,055 bond.

Preliminary charges against him are:

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated – endangerment- Class A Misdemeanor
  • Auto theft- Level 6 Felony
  • Criminal recklessness- Class B Misdemeanor
  • Leaving the Scene of an Accident- Class B misdemeanor
  • Operating a vehicle without ever receiving a license – Class A misdemeanor
  • Resisting law enforcement- Class A aisdemeanor
