Children too young to compete in 4-H participated in Clover Buds and Mini 4-H projects and events at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair. Mini 4-H projects included crafts, foods, forestry, sewing, bugs and space, and Clover Buds could submit any project of interest to them.

1999

A transfer of assets from the Carl Reeves Trust to the Heritage Fund of Bartholomew County increased the community foundation’s assets by $5 million. The transfer was designated by Reeves’ widow, Millie, and served as permanent endowments to benefit the Bartholomew County Historical Society, Columbus Youth Camp and First Presbyterian Church.

1974

Henry B. Schacht, president of Cummins Engine Co. since 1969, was selected as one of 200 emerging leaders of America by Time Magazine. The 200 selected were all 45 years old or younger, and were capable of filling a leadership vacuum in the U.S., according to Time.
