Deloris “Dee” Herrmann

COLUMBUS

Deloris “Dee” Herrmann, 94, passed away on July 22, 2024 at GreenTree at Westwood Retirement Community. Dee was born in Rush County, IN, on December 16, 1929. She was the daughter of Clarence and Ruth (Arnold) Dyer and the second of five siblings. Growing up on a farm, she learned the value of family and of having a good work ethic. She attended Indiana University and later married Norbert E. Herrmann on December 15, 1956, in Valparaiso, IN. She was employed by IUPUC from 1980 to 1992 as an administrative assistant, and previously worked at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.

A member of Grace Lutheran Church, Dee was active in education ministries and was a teacher in the English as a Second Language Program. She was also a member of Tri Kappa and Research Club. At home, she was a wonderful cook and artist. Dee had a lifelong interest in crafts, sewing, painting, and produced many items that are now treasured family possessions. Her many recipes continue to be enjoyed by family and friends. But her greatest accomplishment was being a loving and devoted mother to her two sons, grandmother to her two grandchildren, and great-grandmother to her great-grandson.

Survivors include her sons, J. Eric (Lorrie) Herrmann of Columbus, and Mark A. Herrmann of Bloomington; grandchildren, Timothy A. (Kim) Herrmann, and Jennifer Herrmann and partner, Ian Diakov; great-grandson, Finley Herrmann; and brothers, James N. Dyer and Phillip A. Dyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norbert E. Herrmann; sisters, Marjorie E. Cockerham and Eleanor K. Bonne; and an infant twin son, Timothy D. Herrmann.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2024 at Myers-Reed Chapel with Pastor Todd Riordan officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to service time Friday, also at the funeral home. A private entombment will take place at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorials in her name should be directed to Grace Lutheran Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
